A visit to the city hall

We visit the city hall and the statehouse 4 days before we leave Columbus. It was a good chance for us to understand the politic in the America and how the government system works.

We are honored to have Mr. Dorian, a respectful old man dedicating his life to the city Columbus ,  make the presentation for us. There are quite a lot differences between the two country’s government system.

What impressed me a lot is that both city hall and state house are opened to people freely and even got tour guide in there. You know, those are  “government area” . You can’t imagine to visit the “provincehouse” in China. Chinese  government  usually give you the feeling of serious. I can’t judge which is better but I would like to have one more visiting spot and a place people can know how the local government works in the city.

  1. These are great observations about the accessibility of government buildings to the people in China versus the people in the US. What do you think the pros and cons are to letting people have access to the government buildings? One thing that I like about having access to government buildings in the US is that it helps people to feel connected to their country, their state, their city--and to feel connected to the politics and governance of their country. Since we are meant to be a democratic society and participate in the democratic process, it is helpful when things are transparent and accessible. I also love learning about the history of the architecture of these buildings which in turn provides a history of our country.
You will have a chance to see some federal buildings when you are in Washington D.C., so I'm curious to hear more of your thoughts after you visit the Capitol Building! I wonder if you will have some more thoughts on this topic!
Thanks again for sharing your experience!

  2. I can't agree more with "make people feel connected to the governance".No matter there is a small government or big government,it is important to let people know government is not the commander,it is copartner of the citizen working at building the city.
